Advanced River Running Course
Our speciality at Packrafting Tasmania is assisting others to reach new heights. And our Advanced River Running Course literally does this. On this course we tackle steeper, harder and more challenging rapids. We teach paddlers to work together to keep each other safe whilst giving people the chance to push their limits & their skills.
This intense 3-day course is designed for those who have consecutively and purposefully built their technical paddling skills up over a number of years. It expands on the numerous levels of prior courses that Packrafting Tasmania offer. To undertake it you will need to have previously taken at least one of our lead up courses.
This course focuses on taking paddlers boat control and technical paddling ability to new levels of challenge.

Course Focus
Initially we will utilise a slalom whitewater course venue in order to maximise the potential learning and cement the fundamental skills required for harder water. The plan though is to then have at least one day on challenging whitewater, such as on the Lea or North Esk Rivers. Unfortunately such river sections cannot be guaranteed if water levels and weather conditions are not conducive.
Participants on this course need to already be consistently carving into and out of eddies at high speed and should be able to significantly edge their boats.
This is because a large focus of the course will be on developing participant's ability to boof. That is to lift the bow up and over various features, such as both small & large drops, holes and eddy lines. We will teach a variety of different boofing techniques.
Whilst the focus of this course is on developing technical knowledge specific to packrafts being used on grade 3/4 whitewater there will also be considerable emphasis on developing participants safety skills and their ability to work as part of a team to manage challenging river environments safely.
